The Watchers and the Pre-Deluge Era
The use of the term "watchers" is common in the Book of Enoch. The Book of the Watchers (1 Enoch 6–36) occurs in the Aramaic fragments with the phrase irin we-qadishin, "Watchers and Holy Ones", a reference to Aramaic Daniel. The Aramaic irin "watchers" is rendered as "angel" (Greek angelos, Coptic malah) in the Greek and Ethiopian translations, although the usual Aramaic term for angel malakha does not occur in Aramaic Enoch.
The evil and wickedness that was introduced to the planet and humans by both the Watchers and their offspring the Nephilim was so horrendous that God had to start the Genesis project all over again, holding fast to those humans that remained spiritually and genetically pure, in particular Noah and his family, and then unleash the great Deluge.
6:1. And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters.
6:2 And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: ‘Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.’
6:3 And Semjaza, who was their leader, said unto them: ‘I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.’
6:4 And they all answered him and said: ‘Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.’
6:5 Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it.
6:6 And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it.
6:7 And these are the names of their leaders: Samlazaz, their leader, Araklba, Rameel, Kokablel, Tamlel, Ramlel, Danel, Ezeqeel, Baraqijal, Asael, Armaros, Batarel, Ananel, Zaq1el, Samsapeel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel.
Without the First Book of Enoch, Genesis 6:4 could never be easily clarified, and there are some translations that are uncertain if the Nephilim (rendered as "giants" in the King James Version) are also "the heroes of old, the mighty men of renown," or if these "heroes of old" are those various tribes mentioned later in the Bible who slayed many of the giants (one of the best known tales being that of David who slew the Gibborim giant, Goliath of Gath).
The Watchers previously had aided in the creation of the Garden of Eden and also watched over the Garden afterwards. They were among the original "sons of god" during the pre-Deluge period.
The chief of The Watchers was known as Semjaza ("he sees the name" or "the name has seen"). He had intercourse with Adam's first companion, Lilith, and they begat the first of the Nephilim, Azazel.

Summary: Samyaza was the leader of all of the watcher angels. He lusted after human women and was one of the fathers of the Nephilim. He was bound in the center of the earth by Michael for his crimes along with the other leaders of the Watchers. As the first and leader of the fallen angels, and the ultimate cause of and father of the first demons, it is widely believed that Samyaza is "the devil" or "the adversary" that will one day rise up and lead the demons and evil fallen angels or devils against God on Judgement Day to rebel against his fate.
Semjaza also attempted to seduce the future "whore of Babylon," Ishtar, when she was still a virgin:

When the angels came to earth, and beheld the daughters of men in all their grace and beauty, they could not restrain their passion. Shemhazai (Semjaza) saw a maiden named Istehar (Ishtar), and he lost his heart to her. She promised to surrender herself to him, if first he taught her the Ineffable Name, by means of which he raised himself to heaven. He assented to her condition. But once she knew it, she pronounced the Name, and herself ascended to heaven, without fulfilling her promise to the angel. God said, “Because she kept herself aloof from sin, we will place her among the seven stars, that men may never forget her,” and she was put in the constellation of the Pleiades.
Later tales tell of Ishtar's boredom in the stars and how she connived her way to become a fertility goddess and eventually reigned as the Harlot goddess of Babylon.
There is evidence that Semjaza and his angelic followers were worshiped as gods in antiquity. In Greece, Semjaza was Chronus, the chief of The Titans, whom Zeus overthrew and cast into Tartarus. In ancient Egypt he was worshiped as Atum who later evolved into Ra, the Sun God. In ancient Sumeria he and a goddess/angel named Ninlil, and "the Council of Seven" were the Annunaki that created Eden. In the Book of Enoch, the Watchers were in charge of watching over “Eden.” Thus the Annunaki have to be NINE members of The Watchers. In Mesopotamia he was worshiped as the god Anu, "father of all gods" (a corruption of his actual role as the leader of The Watchers and the father of the Nephilim). It is possible that the king of the Watchers, Semjaza, may have been the first entity worshiped as Baal (Ba'al). These angels were very powerful and would easily have been taken as Gods by mankind. And there was plenty of time for this to happen: from the time The Watchers began mating with human women and producing Nephilim until the time of The Deluge was 1,250 years.
Just prior to unleashing the Flood, God instructed the archangel Michael to bind Semjaza and his associates as they witnessed the death of their seed at the hands of the second angel Gabriel. They also were forced to watch the giants slay one another in battle. Afterwards Michael was to bind the Watchers in the valleys of the earth for seventy generations.

9 And to Gabriel said the Lord: ‘Proceed against the bastards and the reprobates, and against the children of fornication: and destroy [the children of fornication and] the children of the Watchers from amongst men [and cause them to go forth]: send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle: for length of days shall they not have.
10 And no request that they (i.e. their fathers) make of thee shall be granted unto their fathers on their behalf; for they hope to live an eternal life, and that each one of them will live five hundred years.’
11 And the Lord said unto Michael: ‘Go, bind Semjaza and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness.
12 And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgment and of their consummation, till the judgment that is for ever and ever is consummated.
2 Peter 2:4-6: "For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus and delivered them into chains of darkness reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example in those who afterward would live ungodly."
According to the Maya, The Nine were seen as living in the Underworld and were generally described as gods of conflict, warfare, and are hence linked with dangerous transition times, social unrest, eclipses, and natural disasters like earthquakes.
At the time of their return a war shall commence against the 13 Gods of Heaven. In the end, Night shall conquer Day.

And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
The symbolism of Revelation 9:11 leaves the exact identification of Abaddon open for interpretation. The term abaddon appears six times in the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible; abaddon means destruction or “place of destruction,” or the realm of the dead, and is associated with Sheol. Abaddon is the angel of the abyss, the leader of the angels which were cast into Tartarus. Because of their sins (Genesis the Sixth Chapter) these angels, led by Semjaza, were cast into Tartarus after the Flood. It is likely, therefore that Semjaza their leader is the Biblical Abaddon of Revelation.
Angels are said to have corporeal bodies, although they can assume any shape or form they please. For the purpose of terrifying humans and stinging them with tails similar to scorpions, the angels released from Tartarus would have to assume such forms as required to function as living, flying furies (not unlike some of various kinds of beings that plagued humans in Greek mythology).
Another possibility:
The leader of the Watchers, Semjaza, in some writings, repented his actions before the other Watchers were bound in Tartarus. He then exiled himself to the constellation Orion. Perhaps he will return from exile, free eight of his fellow angels from Tartarus, and return to Earth as if in a giant spaceship as leader of the Annunaki. Of course this would be a deception.
According to First Enoch, the Nephilim’s supernatural strength and evil aggressive nature threatened to push ordinary man to extinction. Mankind itself had grown evil and debauched by the secret knowledge and technology of God that both the Watchers and the Nephilim had given them. It is for these reasons that God, seeing the imminent disaster against Adam’s lineage, intervened and destroyed the Nephilim with Noah’s flood along with most of humanity.
Yet there were many pre-Flood Nephilim who had the knowledge of The Watchers and taught men the forbidden secrets of the universe and gave to men technologies that belonged to God. And for that sin ... their leader, Azazel, the firstborn Nephilim of Semjaza and Lilith, was banished to Tartarus until the time of the Lake of Fire punishment. And to him was all sin ascribed: "And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin."
In punishment for revealing the secrets of Heaven to mankind, the ways of war to men, and to women the ways of harlotry, Azazel is banished to the realm of darkness via a portal located in a place known as Dudael.
4 And again the Lord said to Raphael: ‘Bind Azazel hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dudael, and cast him therein.
5 And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light.
6 And on the day of the great judgment he shall be cast into the fire.
7 And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons.
8 And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin.’
Dudael is the prison of all the fallen angels, especially The Watchers, the entrance of which is located to the east of Jerusalem. The way this place is described, Dudael is sometimes considered as a region of the underworld, comparable to Tartarus or Gehenna.
Azazel therefore is blamed for original sin, not Satan. Indeed, for some odd reason, Satan only begins to appear as a major adversary of God and Man in the New Testament and not in the Old, particularly in Revelations, the last book.
So only The Watchers and the firstborn and most evil of the Nephilim, Azazel, were sentenced to imprisonment in Tartarus. The other pre-Flood Nephilim killed each other off or perished in the Deluge. The post-Flood Nephilim who somehow managed to survive the Flood eventually died off too. Therefore there can be no "Return of the Nephilim" in any cosmic sense. However ....
8. And now the giants, who lave been born of spirit and of flesh, shall be called upon earth evil spirits, and on earth shall be their habitation. Evil spirits shall proceed from their flesh, because they were created from above; from the holy Watchers was their beginning and primary foundation. Evil spirits shall they be upon earth, and the spirits of the wicked shall they be called. The habitation of the spirits of heaven shall be in heaven; but upon earth shall be the habitation of terrestrial spirits, who are born on earth.
9. The spirits of the Rephaim shall be like Nephilim, which shall oppress, corrupt, fall, contend, and bruise upon earth.
10. They shall cause lamentation. No food shall they eat; and they shall be thirsty; they shall be concealed, and shall rise up against the sons of men, and against women; for they come forth during the days of slaughter and destruction.
In May 2012 we began to see examples of Rephaim possession when the Rephaim-possessed Rudy Eugene chewed off the face of a homeless man in Miami, Florida and a wave of crazed, superhuman, usually naked possessed men and women began attacking other human beings. It has reached epidemic proportions now, and always blamed on drugs like bath salts, Flakka, even marijuana. The evil spirits of Nephilim and their spawn have to be in our world to participate in the great plague of darkness the world will be plunged into for three days and four nights (when billions shall die).
The days of slaughter and destruction began in May 2012 ... seven months before the Watchers were unleashed by the science of men.

Thus, if the Watchers escaped into the "underworld," they may now reside in what we would call another dimension: one parallel to our own. Perhaps after escaping to the underworld they were later trapped there or else have free will to come and go.
