Why Quatrain 2.97 Sets Off Alarm Bells When the Pope Says He Will Visit Iraq

Nostradamus, Quatrain 2.97 ~

Romain Pontife garde de t'approcher, de la cité que deux fleuves arrouse,
ton sang viendras aupres de là cracher, toi & les tiens quand fleurira la Rose.

Roman Pontiff beware of approaching, the city that two rivers arouse,
your blood will come from the spitting, you and yours when the Rose will flourish.
I was to write an update regarding the Pope's upcoming trip to Iraq a month ago, but was late in doing it. Then I decided to hold off when he expressed doubt he would go there over three weeks ago, partly due to the continuing COVID-19 crisis and Vatican concerns as to his safety. It appeared the visit would be cancelled. But now that it is planned to go ahead as scheduled on March 5, a timely updating is critical.

Top aide says despite it all, Pope’s determined to go to Iraq

ROSARIO, Argentina — According to Pope Francis’ top diplomat, the Argentine pontiff is still “very interested” in going to Iraq March 5-8, despite his recent bouts of sciatica, the limitations caused by the Covid pandemic and, most recently, a new wave of terrorist attacks.

Pope to meet top Shiite cleric Sistani on Iraq visit: cardinal

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Pope Francis is to meet top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani during the first-ever papal visit to Iraq in March, a senior Catholic cleric told AFP on Thursday. Louis Sako, patriarch of Iraq's Chaldean Catholic Church, said it would be a "private visit" between the two religious figures at Sistani's residence in the shrine city of Najaf, "without formalities."

Saint John Paul II twice attempted to establish visits to Iraq in 1998 and 1999, the first date to have been some time in 1999. The first visit was cancelled because a US bombing campaign was being threatened throughout much of 1998 due to Saddam Hussein continually defying UN weapons inspection teams to ascertain if he was making and storing weapons of mass destruction. Finally massive air strikes were launched against Baghdad and other Iraqi cities over a three-day period in December 1998. The second effort for the Pope to visit Iraq in January 2000 was dashed by none other than Saddam himself who declared he could not guarantee the Pope's safety during such a tense time, although the leader of the Chaldean Catholic community in Baghdad said that the trip had only been delayed. The delay became permanent once the US invaded Iraq in March 2003.

Pope Francis To Focus On Abrahamism During Iraq Visit – OpEd

When Pope Francis visits Iraq in March, he plans to anchor his interfaith dialogue with Muslims in Abrahamism, the common root of Semitic religions that trace their origin to Judaism and the worship of Abraham’s God. The Biblical birthplace of Abraham, Ur in southern Iraq, will figure prominently in the pope’s itinerary when he visits war-torn Iraq.

Pope, due to visit Iraq in March, condemns Baghdad attack

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis, who is scheduled to visit Iraq in March, on Thursday condemned a twin suicide bombing that killed at least 32 people in a Baghdad market as a “senseless act of brutality”. In a message sent in his name to the Iraqi president, the pope gave no indication as to whether the bombing would affect his planned trip.

Like Pope Francis, the late pontiff intended a visitation to the ancient city of Ur, believed to be the birthplace of Abraham, as a major priority. Pope Francis also hopes in 2021 to help heal the wounds the country has suffered through two wars in the 21st Century. Unfortunately, because ISIS still operates "underground" in both Syria and Iraq, Iraq remains an unstable and dangerous place to visit. The group carried out two suicide bombings at a Baghdad market on January 21, 2021, which killed at least 32 people and injured 110 others. Francis intends to visit Baghdad. Yesterday US airstrikes killed the top Iraq leader of ISIS in Kirkuk in northern Iraq. I must emphasize it was the top leader of ISIS in Iraq, not the top leader of ISIS itself who remains hidden. Besides ISIS, Baghdad and other parts of Iraq have been targeted periodically by Iranian groups, the same types of agents launching rocket attacks against Israel from Syria, in attacks on US and pro-US Iraqi installations. Pro-Iranian Shi'a in Iraq have also twice launched drone air attacks against Riyadh as the country slowly becomes embroiled in the proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Hardly a safe place to visit and reason enough to be concerned about the Pope's safety when he travels there in early March, little more than a month from now.

It remains a possibility that the trip will be called off, especially if there is anymore of what happened on January 21 ... or worse.

But technically, and I have pointed this out in the past, Quatrain 2.97 does not actually warn against the Pope travelling to "the land between two rivers" but rather "a city watered by two rivers." Baghdad is of course famously "watered" by the Tigris River but there is another: The Diyala River joins the Tigris just southeast of the city and borders its eastern suburbs. Thus, Baghdad qualifies as a city actually lying between two rivers, watered by one, and to some lesser extent, watered by the other.
Picture
It does fit prophecy. Yet there are cities in other parts of the world that are far more obviously watered by two rivers, some famously, such as Athens and Paris. Also, prior to the many conflicts in the Middle East that began with the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-88, the city most commentators applied the quatrain to was Lyon in southern France. Thus, Quatrain 2.97 was often linked to Quatrain 2.41 about the Pope fleeing the Vatican during the appearance of the "great star." Indeed, it is my belief that the Pope who evacuates Rome will seek to reopen the old 13th Century Papal residences in Avignon and hide out there during World War III, not aware that the war will come to southern France, straight up from Marseilles to Lyon, in a most horrible and devastating manner. In a sense, he will have jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

So, what does set off the alarm bells concerning Baghdad being the city of Quatrain 2.97?

It is all the other quatrains that paint bleak and horrific pictures about a land "between two rivers." One truly gets the impression that Nostradamus was writing, even obsessing, about the same location in all of them. Here is a sampling (without interpretations):
Quatrain 6.33

His last hand through the bloody Alus,
Protection by sea will not be guaranteed:
Between two rivers, dreading the military hand,
The black and angry one will make him repent.
Quatrain 9.76

With the Rapacious and bloody one,
Issued from the brothel of the inhuman Nero,
Between two rivers, the military on the left hand,
He will be murdered by a young, bald man.
Quatrain 8.55

He will find himself shut in between two rivers,
Casks and barrels joined to cross beyond:
Eight bridges broken, chief run through many times,
Perfect children's throats slit by the knife.
Quatrain 2.35

The fire by night will take hold in two lodgings,
Several within suffocated and roasted.
It will happen near two rivers as one:
Sun, Sagittarius and Capricorn all will be reduced.
Also there is the infamous Mesopotamia quatrain, and of course everyone knows that Mesopotamia is "the land between two rivers."

Quatrain 8.70

He will enter villainous, unpleasant, infamous
Tyrannizing over Mesopotamia,
All friends made by the adulterous woman,
The land horrible, black of feature.
Picture
Thus, with so many prophecies by Nostradamus linking a land between two rivers and Mesopotamia with wars, at least two evil tyrants, genocide, and terrible destruction to the region itself, why should we assume the one other prophecy concerning a pope and a city watered or "aroused" by two rivers is not also related?

It is possible it is not related, but chances are high that it is.

The pope who dies spitting blood, and likewise all those who accompany him, must be victims of a military attack. Likely these are bullets causing the entire delegation to bleed from their mouths, unless it is a biological agent.
I have considered the possibility that the bleeding is from the lungs, and thus from a COVID-19 infection, but the quatrain is a warning to "you and yours" (to the pope and those with him) ... thus, what are the chances of the entire delegation coughing up blood from COVID-19 at the same time? Not too likely.

Could it possibly be a different pope?

It certainly could.

And, for that matter, Pope Francis may have a smashing success when he visits Iraq and returns back to the Vatican safe and sound. In fact, I would not at all be surprised if it all does go well.

However, it will open the gates to future visits by Francis and other popes who will follow him. It may even open up the possibility of a visit by the elderly pontiff emeritus, Benedict XVI.

The danger then would not necessarily be a first visit to Iraq but a sense of false security for future visits. And it may be during one of those this quatrain is fulfilled.

We should not be surprised if that is the case. The likelihood that Iraq will ever be a nation at peace anytime in the near future or even the next 20 or 30 years is not at all reassuring. Iraq will likely remain an abode plagued by periods of war, insurrection, terrorism, persecution, and genocide until the time of a Golden Age Nostradamus envisions will last worldwide for 57 years. After that, wars will start up again and will never end until the Battle of Armageddon.

So, yes, it may be a long time before a pope is actually killed approaching the city of Baghdad. Or it could be in March of this year ... or even May of 2023.

Why May 2023?

Because that will be the 42nd anniversary of the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in May 1981.

The last troublesome vector for Pope Francis of June 2019, still wielding some influence in 2021, was largely contingent on whether President Donald Trump would die in office later that year (much like Pope John XXIII and President John F. Kennedy were linked by death in 1963). Trump was not assassinated and so Pope Francis remained safe. Had anything happened to Trump, Francis would have likely died of natural causes or else resigned like Benedict did in 2013. Indeed, the potential for resignation extended beyond 2019 and lasted throughout 2020, the seventh year after Benedict retired. We are still closer to June 2019 then we are to May 2023 ... and that favors a successful trip to Iraq, but does not guarantee it.
Quatrain 2.97 will likely be fulfilled, if not by Pope Francis now, then possibly by Pope Francis later. One might ask if Francis will return to Iraq in 2022 and again in 2023. Or it may apply to Benedict emeritus ... or by a successor to Francis, who is unknown at this time.

There is also an "elephant in the room" missing from Quatrain 2.97.
Picture
The holy mountain is missing, along with a great city nearby that is half destroyed and littered with corpses: the mountain revealed in the Third Secret of Fatima which "the Bishop dressed in White" will ascend and be killed, along with all those assembled with him, by soldiers shooting arrows. Most likely they will be bullets.

As I state on my Pope Francis main page: "The mountain with the rugged cross at its top is a mystery if applied to Mesopotamia. I can find no evidence of a holy mountain associated with Christianity existing anywhere in Iraq or Syria!"

The location could be almost anywhere, but not likely Iraq. Cross Mountain in Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina is one possibility. Mount Hymettus near Athens, the hill of the Sacre Couer Cathedral in Paris and Le rocher des Doms at Avignon are three others. But there are many other possibilities.

If the Third Secret and Quatrain 2.97 are linked, the city can NOT be Baghdad.

So should we breathe a sigh of relief?

Not neccessarily. Quatrain 2.97 certainly by itself could refer to Baghdad.

Both the Third Secret and Quatrain 2.97 together, as discussed above, could be about one pope visiting a place like Athens or Paris or elsewhere similar at a very bad time.

It is also quite possible that two different popes will be assassinated: one fulfilling Quatrain 2.97 and the other fulfilling the Third Secret prophecy. As bleak as the present times are that we are in, the future is still likely to be long ... long enough for two papal assassinations, and maybe more than that.

If Quatrain 2.97 is indeed applicable to the Pope's March visit to Iraq, then one mystery remains: who or what is "The Rose?" It can't be when roses flourish, because they don't flourish in March. I also see no indication that the late Princess Diana, England's Rose, is going to be coming into remembrance in a major way in March either. Maybe it is because The Rose does not seem to apply, that the trip will be a safe one!
